DOHA A LEADING Australian vocal group, The Idea of North (TION) enthralled music lovers with songs at the American School of Doha (ASD) Fine Arts Theatre on Monday. The performance was based on Jazz and in a comedy form, featuring genres written by famous composers including John Williams. The songs presented at the concert included Both Sides Now, Smile, besides others.

Among the performers, Sally Cameron entertained the crowd with Soprano, Naomi Crellin with Alto and Nick Begbie and Andrew Piper sang in tenor and bass, respectively.

The troupe also performed a piece In this Heart with ASD students. The event was first of the Friends of the ASD Concert series. The group had spent two days at the school, working with ASD chamber singers’ and choir groups as well as school officials.

Speaking to Qatar Tribune, ASD Head of Fine Arts Robert Krebs said, “TION came to ASD to demonstrate to the students different singing techniques that hold lots of motivation for the budding singers among them to continue singing.

“The students were so excited about the visit, and they learnt a lot from the group in the workshops. They learnt things like vocal production, blending and balancing, intonation and tuning, creating the sound that a group of singers need to create,” he said, adding that the group had a two-hour session with the students.

Krebs added that he was proud to have the troupe at the school, and there was plan to have more of such professionals visiting the school.
