Coming soon: Affordable marriage halls

MARRIAGE is an expensive affair for Qatari youth. Other marriage costs aside, just the rent of the marriage reception hall can fall anywhere between QR100,000 and QR500,000.

But all that is set to change soon with Qatar Foundation’s Social Development Centre (SDC) announcing its Remas project. Under the project, the SDC will build eight wedding halls in different areas of the country over the next five years.

According to SDC Executive Director Amal Abdulatif al Manai, it has sought land for the project from the Ministry of Municipality. It also plans to put in place a specialised administration for the construction and hire management specialists for running the halls.

Also, Qatar Charity has signed a pact with the Aspire logistics company to set up three well-equipped wedding tents and present it as a gift to Qatar, to facilitate the marriages of those with limited income.

The attempt has come in response to suggestions recently made by members of the municipal council.
