Qatar celebrates today 2nd sports day

DOHA the stage is all set for the country second National Sports day with a number of governmental organizations, businesses and private organizations in and around Doha lining of a variety of events for the occasion.

Scores of men, women, children, including those with special needs, are expected to participate in the sporting events are classified according to the Qatari culture in different locations, including Corniche, Aspire, All R Street, Katara, Museum of Islamic Art Park, Barzan and the Olympic Park between 9 am-4 pm.

The daylong events including walks, football, volleyball, basketball and handball matches, will be cycling, Arabian horse show and yoga sessions emphasize sports as an integral part of a healthy lifestyle. The closing ceremony of the torch lighting in Aspire to 5 pm will witness and release of thousands of colorful balloons in Corniche at 8 pm.

The national day of Sport, an initiative of the heir apparent his Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, is held every year on the second Tuesday of February.

Ministry of economy and finance, Qatar Foundation for the protection of women and children, Sidra medical centre, combined research group contracting & Trading belong to organizing walks on the Corniche, while Qatar Central Bank plan to organize a marathon there are organizations.

Striving will be a hub for various sports activities such as football and volleyball competitions for women in the women's Hall, karate training, recreational games for children, tug of war contest for children, football and volleyball for men, boxing and yoga sessions among others.
