DOHA QATAR Petroleum’s (QP) Industrial Cities Directorate in collaboration with several QP joint ventures and subsidiaries celebrated the National Sport Day recently. The wide ranging events attracted over 7,000 participants.

Minister of Energy and Industry and Chairman & Managing Director of QP HE Dr Mohammad bin Saleh al Sada took part in the festivities, as he toured the MIC Sports Complex along with Director of Industrial Cities Abdulaziz Jassim Mohd al Muftah and other senior QP officials.

“I would like to thank all those who contributed to the success of this year’s National Sports Day celebration, namely the organising team, volunteers, the security and safety personnel, the Qatar Olympic Committee, all QP Industrial Cities departments, and the company employees and their families who responded to our invitation to take part in the activities. This event was a welcome opportunity for all employees and labourers from both Ras Laffan Industrial City and Mesaieed Industrial City to gather together for a day of entertaining activities at the superb facilities of Mesaieed,” said Muftah.

“We particularly appreciate the collaboration of all QP subsidiaries based in both industrial cities which joined efforts with us to make that special day’s experience as varied and rich as possible.

This is consistent with the industrial city’s directorate’s vision of providing unique thriving spaces where various, complementary and connected activities work together towards the common goal of a sustainable, diversified and healthy Qatari economy and society,” he added.

The sports events started with a mini-marathon, followed by competitions in cricket, basketball, football, rugby and hockey at the MIC Sports Complex. A golf tournament was also held at the Mesaieed Golf Club, while the Al Shaheen Club hosted competitions in volleyball as well as tennis and badminton for women only. A badminton challenge was held at Mesaieed International School, and the Community Park featured many attractions for children, including henna tattoo, face painting and an inflatable castle.

All the participants received complimentary gifts such as t-shirts, caps, sweaters and footballs. On the other hand, the winners of the various sports competitions were awarded with trophies, medals and gifts.

The National Sport Day events at MIC were organised by QP’s industrial cities directorate in partnership with QP’s Gas Operations Department, QP Refinery, Qatar Steel, Gasal, Qatar Fuel (WOQOD), Qatar Vinyl Company (QVC), Qatar Aluminium (Qatalum), Qatar Chemical Company (QChem) as well as Doha Bank.

A special media campaign was conducted before the event to raise awareness about the National Sport Day activities in Mesaieed, and this was followed by another campaign after the event to thank all participating employees, departments and companies.
