DOHA UNIDENTIFIED miscreants reportedly smashed windshields of cars belonging to two Filipino expatriates near the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex on Saturday night and took away valuables including an ipad and a camera worth over QR 62,000.

The Filipino victims later reported the matter to the police.

According to the victims, they had gone to watch the semi-final of Total Qatar Tennis Open after parking their cars near the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex when the incident took place.

One of the victims Erwin, an engineer working for a construction company, told Qatar Tribune on Sunday that he discovered about the incident right after the match at around 9:30pm. “I went back to my car and saw that the windshield was broken and my bag containing an ipad and iphone charger was missing. I immediately dialled 999 and reported about the incident,” he said.

According to Erwin, he later found out that another Filipino, who had also parked his car there, met a similar fate with the criminals smashing the windshield of his car and decamping with a camera worth QR60,000 and the victim’s passport.

“It was obviously a random attack as the car of the other victim was parked about four cars after mine. He told me that he actually had with him two company cameras worth QR40,000 and QR60,000 each. He decided to carry with him one of the cameras and left the other as like me he also did not apprehend any such incident,” he said.

Erwin added that the burglars made sure that they laid their hands only on valuable items and left his cheap phone lying in the car.

“I have been residing here in Doha for the last five years and this is my first experience of a burglary. This incident, however, should serve as a warning to all those who leave valuables inside the car at a parking lot without suspecting any untoward incident.

At the end of the day it is our responsibility to be cautious and guard against such incidents,” he said.
