PAKISTANIS CELEBRATE NATIONAL DAY WITH COLOURFUL EVENTS

DOHA EXPATRIATES from Pakistan celebrated their National Day recently with a host of colourful events showcasing their country’s rich culture and heritage.

The celebrations kicked off with a prestigious flag-hoisting ceremony held on the Pakistan embassy premises in diplomatic enclave.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Qatar HE M Sarfraz A Khanzada unfurled the white and green Pakistani flag to the singing of national anthem by students of Pakistani schools.

For the first time, Pakistani educational institutions – Pakistan Education Centre, Pak Shamaa School and College and Bright Future Pakistani International School – held flag-hoisting ceremonies on their respective campuses on March 23. Earlier, The TNG School organised a function to mark the National Day.

Khanzada attended the function held at the PEC as the chief guest.

Pakistan embassy’s Head of Chancery Malik M Farouk and Community Welfare Attaché Rashid Nizam were also present on the occasion. PEC Principal Nargis Raza Otho and faculty members welcomed the guests.

Students presented the national anthem.

Pakistan embassy’s Defence Attaché Commodore Zafar Mansoor Tipu raised the Pakistani flag at the colourful ceremony held at Pak Shamaa School. President Managing Committee M A Shahid and Principal Nabila Kaukab, heads of all wings and teaching staff were present.

Counsellors at the Pakistan embassy Asim Khan Mohmand and Gauhar Riaz attended the function held at the Bright Future Pakistani School as special guests.

Tahir M Chaudhary, president of the Board of Trustees, Qazi M Asghar, member of the Board of Directors, Principal Mussarat Irfan and VPs Ali Zulqarnain, Waheed Imran and Sumera were present on the occasion.

Sohni Dharti, a socio-cultural organisation of Pakistani expatriates working in Qatargas and Ras Gas, celebrated Pakistan’s National Day at Al Waha Club in Al Khor.

Pakistan embassy’s counsellors Asim Khan Mohmand and Gauhar Riaz, Community Welfare Attaché Rashid Nizam and Defence Attaché Commodore Zafar Mansoor Tipu attended. This year’s event showcased innovatively developed presentations, motivational and inspirational tableaux, skits and speeches on the lives of the national heroes of Pakistan.

The event started with an inspirational, eye-catching and mesmerising presentation by Rana Anwar Ali which left the audience spell bound. It made people smile and then made it difficult for them to hold back their tears. A tableau focusing on the role of youth in the future of Pakistan was well-received by the audience.

The tableau was followed by a skit which showcased the love for national flag and the duties of the nation to ensure grooming of the next generation to work for the development of Pakistan.

Shabbir-ul-Hassan Siddiqui played an old man in the skit, which moved the audience. Noorul- Ain and Zahra Batool conducted proceedings of the programme.

Safdar Abbas paid tributes to Pakistan’s leading social activist and philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi in his speech.

Another highlight of the show was the keynote speech delivered by Shaukat Chandna, a wellknown intellectual and public speaker, which kept the audience glued to their seats.

The last attraction of the show was the annual report presented by Chairman Ali Shahid Pirzada who dwelt upon the performance of the Executive Committee (Excom) in the year 2012.

He also thanked his team specially President Sohni Dharti Shabbir-ul-Hassan Siddiqui and Vice President Iqbal Saad for their support and untiring efforts.

The members also selected the new Excom for the year 2013 and the chairman-designate Liaqat Amin Satti vowed to carry on the good work by his predecessors and promised to work wholeheartedly to make Sohni Dharti a vibrant forum of the Pakistani expatriates in Qatar.

New office-bearers included Adnan Sheikh (president), Saleem Baloch (vice president) and Noorul- Ain (president L/W) and Zahra Batool (president Y/W). This was followed by a prize distribution ceremony.
