DOHA THE Qatar Petrochemical Company (Qapco) recently sponsored a special award ceremony at the Abdulrahman Bin Jassim Preparatory School in Al Wakrah.

The ceremony honoured the top 30 students at the school in English, mathematics and science, with each student receiving a certificate of achievement and a distinctive gift to commemorate the occasion.

“Our school organises this special award ceremony to recognise and reward students who have performed exceptionally well during the past academic year,” said Yousef al Abdulla, school principal.

“The school thanks Qapco for its sponsorship, which not only makes the award ceremony possible, but also provides students with a chance to build connections with the oil & gas industry and to look forward to working within the industry in the future.” Nasser al Hajri, Qapco’s human resource and learning manager thanked Abdulla for his kind words, describing the school as “a wonderful place to learn and develop.” Hajri continued: “We feel privileged to be able to support this wonderful event as it highlights everything that is good about education in Qatar.

“To publicise the achievements of your students is a fantastic way of not only rewarding your students but also motivating others to aim high and maximise their own potential.

“I feel proud that Qapco and the Abdulrahman Bin Jassim Preparatory School are able to collaborate on this event and I hope that we will be able to work together more in the future.” The year 2012 was a landmark year for Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO) as it embarked on a comprehensive strategy to further engage the education community and attract more and more Qatari nationals to join the company.

This strategy included signing numerous memoranda of understanding (MoU) with educational institutes, helping to sponsor many new projects and programmes and creating academic chairs at Qatar University and Texas A&M at Qatar.

It was also instrumental in the company winning the Crystal for Supporting Qatarisation at the Annual Qatarisation Awards in May last year.

This strategy proved to be so successful that the company aims to continue with the same approach this year and has designed a wide-ranging action plan that will further engage and attract the local educational community. The event at the Abdulrahman Bin Jassim Preparatory School in Al Wakrah was in that direction.
