DOHA MINISTER of State for Internal Affairs HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani has called for the establishment of a regional centre to provide security for sports events in the Middle East and North Africa.

He was speaking at the inauguration of the first Regional Meeting on Sports Protection in the Middle East and North Africa. Held at St Regis Hotel, the meeting was organised by the International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS) in cooperation with the United Nations Crime and Justice Research Institute (Unicri).

“Although the fact that the ultimate responsibility for security rests with the host country, we must all work together to help each other in order to protect sports,” the minister said.

The meeting was attended by QOC Secretary-General Sheikh Saoud bin Abdurrahman al Thani in addition to high-level representatives from the UN, the Arab League and the European Commission, among others.
