Qatar-Saudi meet boosts bilateral ties

DOHA THE Emir His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani bade farewell to Saudi Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz al Saud, at the Doha International Airport on Tuesday.

Prince Salman led the Saudi kingdom’s delegation to the 4th session of the Qatari-Saudi Joint Coordinating Council.

The Heir Apparent His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani was also at hand to see off the Saudi prince. The Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al Thani, and a number of ministers were also present.

Meanwhile, the 4th session of the Qatari-Saudi Joint Coordination Council held in Doha on Monday under the chairmanship of the Heir Apparent and the Saudi prince, issued a joint communiqué.

The session highlighted the call of the Saudi king to the GCC countries to take their relations from cooperation to becoming united. It also expressed satisfaction at the level of military cooperation between Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

In the communique, the two sides confirmed that they will continue holding workshops, while exchanging information and expertise.

In the field of security, the council stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation to ensure security in both countries.

Strengthening ties particularly in counter-terrorism and drug-trafficking was especially needed, the council felt.

According to the communique, the joint council also agreed to coordinate their political stands vis-a-vis issues of joint interest. It felt that the importance of exchanging views has become more relevant now in the light of recent developments in the region.

Prince Salman extended an invitation to HH the Heir Apparent and the Prime Minister to attend the 5th session of the joint coordination council, next year in Saudi Arabia.
