RAF opens Doha village for victims of the floods in Pakistan

DOHA DOHA Village, a creation of Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for humanitarian services (RAF), district Rahim Yar Khan has officially inaugurated in Punjab province of Pakistan.

The building of the village, which consists of 200 dwelling units, a mosque, a school and a health center next to shops, is funded by the RAF.

Honorary President of RAF he Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah al Thani who cut the Ribbon together with the RAF Director-General and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees Ayed bin Dbassan al Qahtani in the presence of members of the accompanying delegation.

The event was actually a announcement of the completion of the construction phase of the project.

Transfer of the houses to the beneficiaries will be coming soon. Prime Minister of Pakistan Raja Pervez Ashraf and the Ambassador of Qatar to Islamabad to attend the opening ceremony but had to close down the local airport because of bad weather forced them to cancel their program to attend the event.

In a letter to Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah al-Thani, the Prime Minister given his regrets not present during the ceremony due to circumstances beyond his control. However, he praised Qatari humanitarian efforts establishing Doha place for those who are homeless by the devastating floods in 2010.

A number of district officials, representatives of the RAF, some of the beneficiaries and the members of civil society involved in the implementation of the project of Doha place were present.

The participants welcome, said Qahtani, "the Qatari delegation is very satisfied with his bit for our brothers in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, which we consider to be a strong pillar of Islam.

"With its scientific, human and civilization sources, Pakistan can be a big player on the world stage and contribute to the establishment of global peace. We are in Qatar, and in the Arab and Islamic world, proud of what Pakistan has reached. We hope that this country would achieve great success. We also want to strengthen the existing brotherly relations between Pakistan and Qatar under the leadership of his Highness the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani and President Asif Ali Zardari. " Referring to the efforts aimed at supporting the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, RAF Director-General said that these efforts led to the village building of Doha to help people affected by 2010 flood, the worst of its kind for 80 years. Many cities and villages were destroyed by the floods that more than 800,000 homes were washed away.

The disaster prompted international community led by the United Nations to humanitarian aid to mitigate the suffering of the affected people and help rebuild the infrastructure facilities severely damaged in the disaster. RAF also responded to the situation with generous assistance in cash and kind.
