Sheikha Moza visits Unhcr HQ

: Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser visited the Geneva headquarters of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (Unhcr) in Geneva on Thursday, consult in educational projects that Unhcr is running with the support of raising A child: Her Serene Highness (EAC) initiative.

In her first visit to the headquarters of the Unhcr, HH Sheikha Moza was welcomed by High Commissioner Antonio Guterres.

Her Highness discussed the positive results of EAC support for teaching activities of Unhcr in refugee camps with representatives of the High Commission.

Her Highness launched in November 2012, EAC to lead to substantial progress in helping children in difficult conditions, including poverty and conflicts, access to education. EAC partners with a number of partners, including UN agencies and local NGOs, and has already supported more than half a million children.

Children affected by conflict and crisis are a long-standing priority for that: Her Serene Highness, a Unesco Special Envoy for basic and higher education, UN-lawyer for the second millennium development goal of universal primary education, and a member of the Steering Committee of first education, set by UN Secretary-General in September 2012.

More than 176,000 children in camps in Africa, Asia and the Middle East benefited from the partnership between the EAC and the Unhcr in 2012.

EAC support has helped with the construction of classrooms and teacher accommodations, increased enrollment, teacher training and provision of school books and desks.
