DOHA LYCÉE Bonaparte Doha held its fifth annual ‘Run Against Hunger’ event in March and got donation commitments for QR121,408 from the activity. The fund will be donated to the French organisation Action Against Hunger.

The event has been a great success, according to the organisers. More than 600 students participated in the run which saw them cumulatively clock close to a thousand (998) kilometers in just four hours.

SébastienPinède, a teacher at the school and the coordinator of the event, explained that this annual event has received an overwhelming response over the years, and this year was no exception.

“We started this programme way back in 2009 and have since raised a total of euro 6,500 (QR30,373.46). All the money goes to help those in need and this year’s collections will go to Bangladesh.” He also explained that the programme features a wide range of activities for participating children of all ages. In the early stages of the event, children designed their shirts with the logo on it. And there is of course the run; the more laps a student runs, the more money they raise.

Lycee Bonaparte, formally the French School of Doha, opened its doors in 1976. The school has an overall student population of around 1,250 with an increase of 7 percent compared with last year and 150 percent compared with 2005.
