Attiyah for pension scheme for expats

DOHA WHAT better than a pension plan to make Qatar even more attractive for expatriates? Administrative Control and Transparency Authority Chairman HE Abdullah bin Hamad al Attiyah recently floated the idea.

Speaking at an event in Doha, Attiyah said, “It will promote a culture of savings among expats and provide a comfortable financial cushion once they retire.” This will allow employers to retain talent and attract fresh blood, while also promoting financial awareness among employees.

“Incorporating pension plans into the benefits packages employees receive in Qatar will have a big impact on the efforts to improve employee retention in a very competitive market. Private companies should take steps towards providing their employees with private pension plans,” Attiyah averred.

“The authorities concerned of various nationalities should hold talks with their Qatari counterparts to create such schemes,” Attiyah said.

Exemplifying India, Attiyah said, “There are a large number of Indian expats in Qatar. But there are no pension schemes for them. The Indian embassy should take an initiative and hold talks with Qatari representatives to create pension funds for Indians in Qatar.” “This is true about other nationalities as well. Qatar is mostly inhabited by expatriates.

Qatari nationals have pension schemes.

On the same lines, expats should also have pension plans so that they can retire peacefully,” Attiyah said.
