HBKU honors six students with President's Award

DOHA the Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) recently honored six exceptional students with the President's Award in recognition of their academic excellence and dedication to making a difference on campus and within the broader community.

The awards were presented to the six winners of HBKU partner universities during a formal ceremony held at Qatar National Convention Center.

The President of HBKU and the Vice President of education at Qatar Foundation for education, science and community development Sheikh Dr. Abdulla bin Ali al Thani and Qatar Foundation's Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Khalid Mohammed al Khanji offered the six winners with certificates of achievement and a commemorative medallion recognize their excellent efforts.

The winners of the award are Al Jawhara Hassan al Thani and Eilin Liz Francis of the Georgetown University School of foreign service in Qatar, Dana Rozario (Northwestern University, Qatar), Mohammad Ali (Weill Cornell Medical College, Qatar), Leila Natsheh (Virginia Commonwealth University, Qatar) and Mohammed al Shammasi, (Texas A & M University, Qatar).

The President's Award was created to recognize the performance and quality of students graduated HBKU partner universities.

Outdoor show appreciation for the academic success of students, the award aims to recognize the students, who have a deep commitment to improving their communities by combining their academic skills with efforts in areas such as student leadership, community service, arts and research have created.

Dr. al Thani expressed are proud of the students and congratulated them for participation in community initiatives for development and to make use of all the possibilities available for them.

"This is an exciting day for us to celebrate the achievement of the winners of the 2013 President's Award.

Those students set a good example by their excellent academic achievements and are role models for other fellow students, which made us all proud, "said Dr. al Thani.

Dr. al Thani explained, "it was not only their academic achievement that we watched-we looked at many things, among them their participation on campus and community development initiatives, their research efforts and what they want to do in the future. We wanted all completed students find, and I look forward to them becoming productive members of our community. " Twenty exceptional students with a grade-point-average of 3.6 and later were nominated by their respective University Deans this year.

Each of the students completed an extensive application process that demonstrated how they made use of everything that their University, Qatar Foundation for education, HBKU and had science and community development. A diverse Committee reviewed and carefully reviewed each application.

In the presence of the Deans of the University, family members and donors, each of the six students was called on stage to collect their certificates as proud parents looked on.

The event was also an opportunity for HBKU to recognize and award of the organizations that have contributed to the students through scholarships.

"It's amazing to be in such a business. They are the people who inspire me to do better, so to be chosen among them a real honor, "said al Jawhara.

"When someone recognizes the hard work you put into something, it is heartening.

It's great that people really spend attention to hard work, "she added.
