UN, League flay Israeli strike near Damascus

BEIRUT ISRAELI jets bombed Syria on Sunday, Damascus rocking for hours and sending pillars of the flame in the night sky in what a Western source called a new attack on the Iranian missiles bound for Lebanon's Hezbollah.

Internet video showed the capital skyline illuminated by flashes; Syrian opponents of President Bashar al Assad rejoiced on Israel's third raid this year, and secondly, in 48 hours, while anger in Tehran threatens to spin further highlights how Syria civil war beyond its borders.

Arab League Secretary-General Dr. Nabil al Arabi warned that air strikes by Israel in Syria would have serious consequences for the region. "This is a flagrant aggression and a serious violation of the sovereignty of an Arab country ... that regional security and stability on the most serious dangers and consequences will expose," said Arabi.

UN Secretary General Ban Kimoon argued for restriction. "The Secretary-General calls on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and calm, and to act with the responsibility to prevent an escalation of what has been a devastating and dangerous conflict, "said his spokesman.
