DOHA THE Pakistan Education Centre (PEC) hosted an open house orientation meeting with parents in connection with the institution’s move to begin the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) classes from September.

A large number of parents and students attended the event which was presided over by PEC Principal Prof Nargis Raza Otho.

Nasir Mahmood Raja, coordinator English Department, briefed the parents about the plan through a multimedia presentation.

He also presented a flash back of the accomplishments of the institution in sports and academics. Raja highlighted the aims and objectives of the proposed IGCSE system of education which is aimed at meeting the longstanding demand of the parents and to equip the students with international qualifications in order to groom them into more productive and vibrant students.

He said highly qualified IGCSE trained teachers will be hired. Separate classes for boys and girls will be held in a special block. The fee structure will be affordable while English language will be the only medium of communication for the classes, he said.

He said the students would be offered three study groups namely, science, accounting and humanities.

He noted that strict admission criteria would be maintained in all the levels owing to the limited number of seats.

All the applicants must have 70 percent marks in their previous classes. They would be tested in English, mathematics, general science and computer studies and must obtain 60 percent and above to be eligible for the admission to the IGCSE classes.

The informative presentation was followed by a question and answer session.

The principal expressed gratitude to the parents and noted that IGCSE classes would be a milestone in the history of PEC which reflects the vision and concern of the management to bring its students at par with students of other international schools by equipping them with high quality modern education. She called on the parents to support the institution’s endeavours to make the move a success.
