Qatar 7th in the world in fibre optic network

DOHA, QATAR is ranked seventh in the world and second in the Middle East in the field of the dissemination of fibreoptic networks at household level, the report of a study released, in Doha, on Monday said.

According to the study conducted by Arthur D little company for innovative Consultancy, Qatar is considered one of the fastest growing countries in the world in terms of fiber optic network expansion, noting that 33.3% of houses in Qatar can access fibre optics, while about 6.3 per cent of homes with fiber optic network are linked during the current year.

The report, published on the sidelines of a press conference held by Ooredoo, based on numbers and statistics of the "Fibre to the Home" (FTTH), the data provided by the operators of telecommunications services, and Arthur D Little company estimates.

The research also found that the pace of implementation of the fiber optic network by Ooredoo performed better than its counterparts in the countries of the region. It is also pointed to the need to the telecom sector, Governments and fibre optic regulatory authorities in support of economic growth in the future approach in the development of the infrastructure of the ' broadband ', which will have many benefits, including more jobs and increase household income, as well as a permanent increase in GDP.
